Readership of print media has been going down for some time now. Mostly it's the Internet that's to blame; the net is free, more diverse, and more timely.

Most of the bigger newspapers are adjusting by ramping up their net presence, and some are even offering e-subscriptions.

Another possibility that's being considered is to significantly increase the advertising, so that the papers will cost very little or may even be free. It's hard to say for sure what the future of print newspapers will be. That's not to say that they have it easy, though.

I think there will always be a segment of the population that will prefer to hold big sheets of paper in their hands rather than reading news on a computer screen or watching it on TV, another competitor to papers. Perhaps in another decade or so, we'll have widespread e-paper.

You could download the latest issue to your e-paper whenever you want, and like the net it would be able to display news that wasn't already a day old. There is too much violence on television these days, but this is not a parameter to stop watching television. Everything has its pros and cons and so is the case with the television.
